Mellisani Cave is located on the island of Kefalonia (Greece), not far from Karavomilo. It is a lacustrine cave of unique beauty and fully developed cave, which is 3.5 km long, 40m wide and 36m high. Mellissani cave constitutes a unique geological phenomenon with a lake in it. It was created by a mechanical and chemical process called karstikopoiisi (dissolution of rocks) during which water enters the calcareous rocks, erodes them and creates hollows. A part of the roof collapsed some thousands of years ago, so most of the cave is in broad sunlight. The cave is about 150 by 25 meters, the water is over 30 meters deep.
The famous Mytros Beach is also on this island.
